Global phosphorus crisis
Modern agriculture relies primarily on mined Phosphorus as fertilizer, half of which ends up in our lakes and rivers. As a result, while high-quality phosphorus mining reserves are becoming increasingly scarce, phosphorus pollution is a key driver for toxic algal blooms worldwide.

PIARCS’ dual solution
- High P loading recovery (40% dry weight): fertilizer production
- High P affinity removal (residual levels below 30 ppb): wastewater treatment

Competition
PIARCS’ process combines the advantages of all competing technologies.

Ongoing progress
PIARCS’ bacteria are triggered by a molecule which has yet to be identified. Fundamental research is ongoing at this time.
